Here’s a weekend treat to refresh your skin!  I’ve been using organic, natural body scrubs — primarily sugar and salt-based ones — for several years now.  But never have I had such smooth skin as I do right now.  And here’s how:

I had a pineapple that was nearing the expiration date in the fridge.  So I took it and combined it with a few ingredients and made a body treatment.

1/2 cup fresh pineapple (do not use canned pineapple)

1/4-1/2 cup freshly ground oatmeal

1-2 tbs. oil (I used apricot and macadamia nut (but olive oil works just fine)

Optional: sugar or another granular ingredient for scrubbing; ground herbs (lavender, peppermint, rose, etc.); 1-2 tbs. raw honey; 1/2 tsp. turmeric

I pureed the pineapple, mixed all ingredients together, and then headed to the shower.  After washing with my new favorite Bath Petals Greek Mint and Honey Organic Shower Gel (amazing — try it!), I used this mixture as I would any body scrub.  I applied it all over my body, going over my skin twice.  After about 2-3 minutes, my skin (which is sensitive) began to tingle just as it did when I used facial peels from time to time. So I began to rinse.

You may ask, why pineapple?  Pineapple is filled with Bromelian, an enzyme that is incredible for your skin.  Pineapple is also very rich in alpha hydroxy acids, the active ingredient in many peels and facial scrubs.  Why use an imitation or a derivative (how many times have you seen the phrase “derived from” on “natural” products labels?) when you can use the real thing?

After using the scrub and allowing it to stay on my skin for 2-3 minutes, I rinsed well and my skin is still tingling in some areas.  To say that this treatment is powerful is an understatement.  Please use with caution if you have very sensitive skin, and dilute with rose water or herbal tea if necessary.  Also, I have seen so many facial recipes with pineapple as an ingredient.  I would caution against its haphazard use for facial care.  If you decide to use it for your face, start with literally just a few drops in your recipe to see how your skin reacts.

Results: Super soft skin, and the slight scaliness of my lower legs is gone.  My skin is glowing; this is indeed a potent and pure home spa treatment.  I’ll be doing this about once a month.  It’s powerful and the results are instant!
